How Samsara + Dispo will pair idle trailers with nearby jobs
4 minute read · Roadmap post (not yet shipped)
The biggest win we see on Dispo's idle-asset marketplace today is a hauler manually listing a trailer as available. A Samsara integration turns that into automatic matching. Here's what the flow will look like.
What hauler telematics gives us (opt-in)
Samsara (and Motive, Geotab, etc.) already knows, for every truck + trailer:
- Location (GPS)
- Utilization — running vs. parked, load state
- Last job completion time
- Driver HOS — are they available for more work today
That data already exists. Today no generator sees any of it. Dispo's integration lets haulers opt individual assets in, so an asset's availability + distance becomes discoverable without exposing anything sensitive.
What the hauler sees
- On the Equipment page, each inventory item gets a new “Opt-in Samsara” toggle.
- Once enabled, Dispo polls Samsara's API for that asset's status every 15 minutes.
- When the asset becomes idle (parked + empty for > 30 min) AND the driver still has HOS available, Dispo auto-lists it on the idle-asset marketplace at the hauler's configured rate.
- When the asset leaves idle (driver starts another job, end of shift), Dispo auto-de-lists.
Zero manual posting. Zero “I forgot to turn off my listing” problem.
What the generator sees
On the marketplace page, idle assets are displayed by distance band (not GPS coordinates):
- "< 15 min from your location"
- "15–30 min"
- "30–60 min"
- "Over an hour"
A short-notice job can filter to "< 30 min" + required capabilities (stainless, ship-to-shore, whatever) and see a ranked list of haulers whose idle assets could actually run the job right now.
The privacy contract
Haulers are understandably twitchy about telematics sharing. Dispo's contract is:
- Per-asset opt-in. You enable on the trailers you want in the marketplace. Others stay dark.
- No raw GPS to generators. The distance band is computed server-side and the coordinates never leave Dispo's backend.
- Opt-out kills historical data. Disabling the integration deletes all prior telematics snapshots.
- No driver PII. We see HOS availability yes/no; we don't store driver names.
When this ships
Target: after the Gulf Coast pilot passes 10 haulers and 25 jobs. We want to be sure the core bid loop works before we wire in a third-party dependency.
If you're a hauler who runs Samsara, Motive, or Geotab and you'd be an early tester, let us know.
TL;DR
Samsara tells you where your trailer is. Dispo tells the world which of your trailers are available to run a job in the next hour. Together, your idle hours stop being invisible cost.
